1970s, Japan. Former disco dancer Fujiko finds her groove as a single mother after reclaiming her baby from her in-laws. Fusing an irreverent rock ’n’ roll spirit with comedy, the drama celebrates independence in a patriarchal society.

In 1970s Japan, Fujiko takes the unconventional route of becoming a single mother after reclaiming her infant who was forcibly taken away by her in-laws. Her decision is met with derision by unsympathetic family members, while the lack of childcare facilities leaves her with less time to work, thrusting her into dire situations. Yet Fujiko remains determined; she encounters warmth and support when she least expects, allowing her to create the life she envisions for her family.

Set against the backdrop of the women’s movement resurgence in Japan, Fujiko fuses an irreverent rock ’n’ roll spirit with comedy as it charts the path of a woman finding her groove as an independent woman in a patriarchal society.
