The 34th Edition of the Singapore International Film Festival is just around the corner, so whether you're a film student, a movie buff, or just looking to be part of an amazing event, we want YOU!

Volunteer roles include, and are not limited to:

  • Front-of-House Volunteers are the first point of contact for festival-goers. They are responsible for customer service at the information desk, ticketing management, ushering and providing stagehand support, crowd management, merchandise sales and to assist SGIFF Venue Manager where required. Volunteers should be willing to commit to at least 4 shifts, each shift will last 4 - 6 hours.

Meal and transport claims will be provided while on duty (transport reimbursement applies to after hours only from 11.30pm to 6.30am).

  • Hospitality volunteers should be willing to commit to the festival duration.
  • Hospitality Volunteers are the first and key point of contact between the international guests and SGIFF. Hospitality Officers are responsible for receiving, welcoming and sending off guests. They work closely with the Hospitality Manager to look after the well-being of guests and more importantly, be a host to the guests during their stay in Singapore. Volunteers should be willing to commit to at least 4 shifts, each shift will last 6 hours.
  • Festival Lounge Volunteers are our anchors at the Festival Lounge and Festival Lounge events such as networking sessions, receptions, parties, socials and lunches. They are responsible for the upkeep of the Festival Lounge vicinity, supports our Hospitality operations, and assists with any Festival-related queries. Volunteers should be willing to commit to at least 4 shifts, each shift will last 6 hours.

  • Event Photographers & Videographers capture remarkable moments of the Festival. Exclusive access will be given to the relevant SGIFF events that require photography and videography, e.g.screenings, masterclasses, post-screening discussions, social sessions, and more. The Festival will credit the photographers and videographers (or their company) on the Festival website, as well as on the future use of their photographs. Volunteers should be willing to commit to at least 3 shifts.

Meal and transport claims will be provided while on duty (transport reimbursement applies to after hours only from 11.30pm to 6.30am).

Committed to nurturing and championing local and regional talent, its competition component, the Silver Screen Awards, brings together emerging filmmakers from Asia and Southeast Asia while paying tribute to acclaimed cinema legends.

We are seeking for suitably qualified individuals for the following project/contract positions for SGIFF 2023:

Project/Contract Positions

  • Oversee the recruitment of all volunteers (Front of House, Event Coverage, Hospitality, Photographers/Videographers)
  • Draft a volunteer briefing document, in consultation with Ticketing, Hospitality, Marketing, BD and Programming input, that outlines all the processes for venue teams.
  • Plan and manage the FOH volunteer schedule for all Festival venues, and organise the FOH volunteer briefing.
  • Lead all communications with venue teams in preparation, during and after the festival, ensuring that everyone is clear about their roles and the processes involved.
  • Manage the preparation, packing and distribution of necessary collaterals, merchandise and briefing notes for each Festival venue, in consultation with the Ticketing and Marketing teams.
  • Oversee the respective Venue Managers and co-ordinate the management of FOH operations for all Festival venues, ensuring that venue teams understand and follow the required processes. FOH operations include set-up, ticketing, merchandise sales, crowd control, work with SGIFF Team and Venues to ensure prevailing Covid-19 safety measures and regulations (if applicable), ushering, post-show Q&A sessions, Audience Choice Award and feedback forms.
  • Assist Ticketing Manager in ticketing operations, bookings and complimentary invites, fulfilling bulk bookings and partner/sponsor requests etc.
  • Work closely with the Ticketing Manager on Front of House management, execution and wrap up.
  • At the end of the Festival, assist the Ticketing Manager to ensure proper handover of FOH reports & monies to SGIFF Hospitality & Office Manager.

Requirements

  • At least a Diploma in Arts Management, Media, Mass Communications, Marketing, Hospitality or equivalent, with minimum 2 years of experience in setting up and managing ticketing and front-of-house operations for large scale events.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Fluency in other languages is a plus.
  • Driven, proactive, able to work independently and yet a good team player.
  • Meticulous and detailed.
  • Responsible, organised and able to meet deadlines.
  • Confident in interacting with all levels of people.
  • Interest in film would be preferred, but not a prerequisite.

Period of Engagement: August to 5 January 2024. Part time in August and September and full time from October to 15 December 2023. There may be a two week unpaid break from 15 December to 31 December 2023.

SGIFF currently has a hybrid working policy in place with time split between the office and working from home. Closer to the festival dates and various events, more time will be required at the SGIFF office or at various venues.

The project fee offered will commensurate with qualifications and experience.

  • Assist the Ticketing Manager to liaise with ticketing agent(s) for updates to the ticketing system, screening schedule and event details (synopsis & visuals etc).
  • Work closely with Ticketing Manager and SGIFF Marketing Team to ensure information is updated on website and social media platforms for film/film schedule updates.
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager to manage ticketing operations, bookings and complimentary invites, fulfilling bulk bookings and partner/sponsor requests etc.
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager to monitor the daily sales/ticketing reports to ensure accuracy and for team updates.
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager to promote and manage group/bulk bookings to schools, institutions and corporations.
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager in preparing the final ticket sales report, ensuring the accuracy of reports for settlement.
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager to ensure SGIFF team is fully briefed on current SMMs (if any), so they can assist the FOH venues teams if necessary
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager to Supervise Front of House Coordinator
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager to work with the Front of House Coordinator to prepare, pack and distribute the necessary collateral and merchandise for each Festival venue.
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager to work with Front of House Coordinator and the respective Venue Managers and oversee the coordination and management of FOH operations for all Festival venues. FOH operations include set-up, ticketing, merchandise sales, crowd control, ushering, post-show Q&A sessions, Audience Choice Award and feedback forms.
  • At the end of the Festival, assist the Ticketing Manager to ensure proper handover of FOH reports & monies to SGIFF Hospitality & Office Manager.

We have an exciting leadership position available for a new Executive Director. SGIFF’s current Executive Director, Emily J Hoe, will be relocating in early 2024, and we are looking for a suitable individual to join us.

  • Reporting directly to the Chairperson of the SGIFF Board, the Executive Director will have overall strategic, financial and operational accountability for SGIFF. This includes the main festival, the Silver Screen Awards (SSA), as well as year-round activities, such as educational programmes, outreach efforts, audience development, and fundraising events.
  • The Executive Director is expected to represent SGIFF as the organisation’s public face and will co-create the vision, mission and strategic priorities for SGIFF in collaboration with the Board as part of SGIFF’s review process.

The Executive Director’s key accountabilities are:

  • Implementation of the long-term strategic direction of the company, working closely with the Board of Directors and Programme Director on developing the strategies
  • Budgetary planning, control, management and reporting for the company, which includes also the preparation of reports and analyses on the performance of the company and its events/programmes;
  • Event planning and management, including the marketing and communications for the event/programme;
  • Strategic partnerships, including relationships with funders, sponsors and donors;
  • Corporate governance as a Company Limited by guarantee, Charity and Institute of Public Character, working closely with the Board of Directors
  • Lead and manage an office of about 8 full-time staff, as well as a team of contract and part-time staff (the number of which will increase in the period leading up to and of the main Festival period). The Programme Director and all department managers report to the Executive Director.

Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Possess minimum of a Bachelor’s degree;
  • Possess at least 5years of experience in a senior management position, of a medium-sized company – media company, arts groups and/or IPC preferred;
  • Minimum of 10 years working experience in relevant fields such as the arts, film, media and creative industries with familiarity of the local film industry and/or media and arts scene, and can speak credibly as the public face of SGIFF to the film community, audiences, the media, stakeholders, partners and government agencies.

Qualities, Knowledge and Skills

  • Believe in the vision and mission of SGIFF; believe that film is an art form with the power to inform, transform, and inspire, and that cultivating an appreciation for film is vital;
  • Possess strong managerial, administrative and event management skills including knowledge of basic accounting;
  • Able to lead and advise staff in areas such as marketing, public relations, business and partnership development, fundraising, finance, programming etc. without needing to be a domain expert;
  • Possess people management skills, and be able to lead, inspire, rally and work with a team, fostering a culture of trust, respect and professionalism;
  • Be able to work with ambiguity and in a fast-paced environment;
  • Be self-driven and reliable, working with integrity, creativity, passion, professionalism, respect for others, and a sense of urgency and purpose.
