In an architecture institute in Delhi, a ragtag group of students bungle their way as they submit their thesis before graduation. Among them is Anand ‘Annie’ Grover, who is repeating his fifth year for the fourth time and dreams of designing an architecture project that would bring about social change.
In her first screenplay credit, Booker Prize-winning novelist Arundhati Roy took inspiration from her time as an architecture student, depicting college life in the 1970s with sharp satirical wit. Pradip Krishen lovingly captures the countercultural atmosphere of the zeitgeist: the anarchic, restless energy of youthful idealism clashing with hegemonic systems that seek to protect the status quo—all while Beatles tunes play on.

Delhi-born Pradip Krishen is an Indian filmmaker, naturalist and environmentalist. He directed three features including Massey Sahib (1985), which won the FIPRESCI Prize at Venice, and Electric Moon (1992). All his film projects involved his wife Arundhati Roy. The 4K restoration of this film by the Film Heritage Foundation premiered this year at Berlinale Classics.
