Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma
Singapore Premiere

The road to a queer woman’s sexual awakening is paved with geysers of blood and radical vulnerability, powered by fantasy and imagination. Guilty pleasures have never felt more seen in this healing, tonally surprising take on the slasher genre.
Geeky queer filmmaker Kris is tasked with reviving the Camp Miasma slasher franchise, with the goal of rehabilitating its transphobic reputation. She ventures into a remote campground to meet with the reclusive and enchanting Billy, who played the ‘final girl’ in the original film, hoping to persuade her to take on a cameo. Over spliffs, fried chicken and supermarket snacks, the two women bond, culminating in an ecstatic sexual awakening.
With copious stylistic throwbacks to definitive ’80s and ’90s horror, Jane Schoenbrun’s third feature is packed with flesh and fluids while remaining tonally surprising. It resolutely celebrates libidinal liberation by giving space to raucous fantasies and freeing pleasures from guilty prison.
