Claire announces at her 250th birthday party her decision to die, which is challenged by family and friends. As her final day approaches, she turns her death into an artist’s statement.
In the future, aging is no longer a problem and death is optional. Once an artist of great renown, Claire announces her wish to die at her 250th birthday celebration. Friends, as well as her husband and AI assistant, try to talk her out of it. But Claire is determined not only to finalise the logistics involved in her decision, but also to turn her final moments on earth into a profound and meaningful piece of performance art.
In this thought-provoking feature debut, Maria Martínez Bayona confronts this generation’s obsession with youth and beauty with an existential spectacle of what it means to be alive. The End of It is a darkly humorous tale of freedom featuring a stellar lead performance by Rebecca Hall.
