The Festival is proud to present an exclusive conversation with this year’s SGIFF Cinema Honorary Award recipient, Deepa Mehta – one of the foremost South Asian diasporic female directors whose often provocative works explore transnational identities and social injustices.

In this dialogue session, Mehta will reflect on her acclaimed journey in film spanning over three decades. Among others, she will speak about her works featured in the Deepa Mehta in Focus programme, such as the Elements trilogy: Fire (1996), Earth (1998), and the Best Foreign Language Oscar nominee, Water (2005), as well as the Canadian Screen Award winner Funny Boy (2020).

With her deeply humanist and sumptuous works on taboo topics such as sexuality, religion and colonialism, Mehta has often confronted difficult subjects in an unflinching way. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to gain insights from a master whose work continues to inspire generations of film lovers.
