The Festival is proud to present an exclusive conversation with this year’s SGIFF Screen Icon Award recipient, Youn Yuh-jung – one of South Korea’s most influential actresses to date and the first Korean actress to win Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards.

In this dialogue session, Youn will reflect on her stellar acting career spanning over five decades. Known for playing provocative female characters who do not conform to societal rules, she is known for her collaborations with directors Kim Ki-young, Im Sang-soo and Hong Sang-soo, among others. Having taken on numerous matriarch roles later in her career, Youn finally gained international recognition in Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari (2020).

Accompanied by our 36th SGIFF Festival Ambassador, local actress Rebecca Lim, don’t miss this rare opportunity to explore the unique choices, acting methodologies and creative collaborations that have come to define Youn Yuh-jung’s remarkable acting career.
