An elderly woman builds a house to entice her children working in Europe to return to Cameroon, but a surprising companionship with a young woman in her neighbourhood upends all she believed about familial ties.
Josette, 80, spends her days overseeing the construction of a house that is meant to entice her children working in Europe to move back to Cameroon. Things take a turn when Sarah, a young street vendor in her neighbourhood, asks her for a favour, to which she begrudgingly agrees. Personal boundaries begin to blur as Josette’s affection and concern for Sarah grow, for better and for worse.
House of the Wind follows Josette’s search for companionship, both found in and withheld by blood and chosen family. Unexpected beginnings and ends present unique challenges in this intimate and tender portrait of loneliness during one’s twilight years.

Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu is a Cameroonian writer-director who studied filmmaking at the Toulouse Film School (ENSAV). His short films include Waramutsého! (2008), about the Rwandan genocide, Painful Imprints (2015) and My Friend Fukushima (2023). House of the Wind, his feature debut, premiered in Orizzonti at Venice.
