Meanwhile, his marriage has gone stale, and he suspects his wife is having an affair. With personal and professional pressures mounting, Gleb takes dramatic steps to protect his interests.
Exiled director Andrey Zvyagintsev transposes Claude Chabrol’s La Femme Infidèle onto wartime Russia, turning the erotic thriller into an indictment of the ruling class. Austere, widescreen compositions lend a disquieting elegance to this moral reckoning, in which the rot of society begins at home and human sacrifice is cruelly exacted to feed continual violence.

Andrey Zvyagintsev has built a body of formally rigorous, allegorical dramas that offer a trenchant critique of Russian society. His feature debut, The Return (2003), won the Golden Lion at Venice. This was followed by The Banishment (2007), Elena (2011), Leviathan (2014) and Loveless (2017), all of which won prizes at Cannes. Minotaur was awarded the Grand Prix at the same festival.
