In Kabul on the eve of the Taliban’s return, a tenacious camerawoman’s career, relationships, family and freedom are thrown into uncertainty. She must decide what is worth holding on to and what she has to leave behind.
Kabul, 2021. Naru is the only female camera operator at the capital’s biggest television station. Separated from her husband, she raises her young son alone and is determined to live independently in a society where women’s choices remain closely controlled. Her career and personal life take a turn when she is assigned to work with Qodrat, a well-known journalist. Though initially dismissive, he gradually becomes fond of her.
Naru and Qodrat’s story unfolds alongside a city mired in violence and uncertainty as the US prepares to withdraw and the Taliban closes in. With naturalistic performances and a lively, grounded visual style, the film blends romance, humour and social observation, portraying a changing Afghanistan through Naru’s everyday life.
