A working-class family and a wealthy couple become entangled as they make a documentary together. Tensions simmer and loyalties shift in Lee Chang-dong’s exquisite, slow-burn drama, which asks if the distance between people can ever be closed.
Blue-collar worker Ho-seok is left broken by a wave of layoffs and a violently repressed strike. He refuses therapy, while his wife Mi-ok holds down a factory job and keeps their family together. They become subjects of a documentary when Mi-ok befriends filmmaker Ye-ji, who senses dramatic potential in their pain. Backed by her rich husband, Ye-ji insinuates herself and her camera into their lives.
As the working class and the wealthy cross paths, desire and envy, fascination and appropriation shade into one another. Anchored by a stellar cast, this finely observed drama examines the fragile ideal of solidarity and the fraught quest for intimacy, asking if the distance between any two individuals can ever be closed.

South Korean auteur Lee Chang-dong is celebrated for his intricate narratives and piercing psychological insight on contemprary society. He is known for Oasis (2002), which won the Silver Lion for Best Direction at Venice, as well as Poetry (2010) and Burning (2018), which took home the Best Screenplay and FIPRESCI prizes respectively at Cannes. Possible Love was awarded the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at Venice.
