Jafar Panahi Iran 2020 18 min PG

A gem concealed beneath layers of patriarchy yearns for the light of liberation and recognition.

Following his daughter and her theatre-producer friend, Jafar Panahi sets out on a journey to a remote Kurdish village in search of a young girl with a golden voice—but who can only be heard and never be seen.

In this documentary short, Panahi reveals the realities of women’s lives under the oppressive patriarchy of post-revolutionary Iran, where religious traditions are wielded to suppress women’s autonomy. Hidden is a homage to the female voice and the fight for gender equality.
